In August 2025, the New Moon will be what’s known as a seasonal Black Moon—a relatively uncommon calendrical event.

This type of Black Moon occurs when there are four New Moons in a single astronomical season, instead of the usual three. The third of those four is considered the Black Moon, a rare event that happens roughly once every 33 months. The next one will occur on August 20, 2028, and it will also be a Supermoon.

In 2025, most of the world will see the seasonal Black Moon on August 23. However, in regions that are far behind Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), it will fall on the previous day, August 22.
